Closed-door meeting with MOH on health regulation
Several SMA Council members met with Ministry of Health (MOH) officials on 29 October 2024 for a closed-door virtual meeting, together with representatives from the Academy of Medicine, Singapore (AMS), and College of Family Physicians Singapore.
During the meeting, various aspects of health regulation were briefed and discussed. SMA looks forward to continued dialogue with MOH in future.
Appointment of SMJ editor-in-chief
The SMA Council is pleased to announce the appointment of Prof Ang Tiing Leong as editor-in-chief (EIC) of Singapore Medical Journal (SMJ) from 1 January 2025.
Prof Ang joined the SMJ editorial board in 2008 and went on to serve as deputy editor from 2014 to 2023 and EIC-designate in 2024. He is a senior consultant at the Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Changi General Hospital and adjunct professor at Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore. He also served as chair of the Chapter of Gastroenterology, AMS from 2017 to 2021 and sits on the current council of AMS.
We wish to extend our deepest appreciation to Prof Poh Kian Keong, who steps down from the SMJ editorship on 31 December 2024. His bold leadership and clear vision in the past decade have been instrumental in SMJ's achievement of numerous key milestones.
The SMA Council is confident that SMJ will continue to thrive and make great strides under the leadership of Prof Ang Tiing Leong.
