Clarifications to LIA pre-authorisation form
The Life Insurance Association (LIA) has issued a Clarification Note to accompany the standard LIA pre-authorisation form for integrated shield plans. It clarifies that doctors are required to only indicate co-morbidities that are relevant to the treatment. "Relevant" being the co-morbidities that may impact treatment or are medically linked to the condition that the patient is being admitted for.
It further clarifies that insurers will obtain the patient's consent for the insurer to receive information provided by the doctor in the pre-authorisation form. This will precede the doctor's completion of the pre-authorisation form.
