Purpose

This course is mandatory for doctors completing specialist training for the next stage of their professional growth as consultants — leading clinical teams with independent medical and ethical decision‑making, and taking on leadership in professional governance, clinical governance, and medical education.

Objectives

  • Build awareness of professionalism, ethics and legal issues in medical practice in Singapore.
  • Acquire skills in ethical analysis and resolution of professionalism and clinical ethics issues.
  • Appreciate professional accountability and respond appropriately to the legal/professional duties and responsibilities.
  • Acquire decision‑making skills for informed consent and end‑of‑life issues.
  • Review core doctor‑patient communication skills.
  • Acquire a framework for personal professional development.
