We last came together for our SMA Charity Fund (SMACF) Appreciation Night two years ago when Singapore was transitioning to living with COVID-19. Since then, there have been quite a number of changes to the composition of the SMACF Board. Former SMA President Dr Tan Yia Swam helped to recruit new Board members as older directors retired, having made valuable contributions to the direction and journey of SMACF. It is this constant renewal of fresh blood and ideas that is needed to help SMACF navigate the ever-evolving and challenging financial landscape, so as to continue supporting our beneficiaries and playing our part in nurturing the next generation of compassionate and competent doctors.
As in the past, the SMACF Board met before the appreciation dinner to be apprised by the SMACF Secretariat of our niche charity's financial health, as well as the upcoming projects for the rest of financial year 2024. As always, there was a healthy exchange of ideas on how to attract new donors to support our charity and in turn our beneficiaries.
This year, the dinner was held at a cosy Chinese restaurant in a private club and was hosted by SMA President Dr Ng Chee Kwan, with SMA Council and SMACF Board members in attendance. Everyone got to know each other better, especially the newer SMACF Board members and SMA Council members, and what better way to do so than over delicious food and drinks? The convivial evening was filled with vibrant chatter, and there was a very noticeable feeling of alignment in our raison d'etre, which was meaningful and encouraging for the continued symbiotic relationship between SMACF and our parent organisation SMA.
Dr Ng proposed a toast, thanking SMACF Board members for their selfless dedication and hard work in support of our beneficiaries. SMACF Chairperson Dr Chong Yeh Woei also shared that he was very happy with the direction that SMA as a family is moving toward, especially with the surge in Membership numbers and the overwhelming interest in the mandatory medical ethics and continuing medical education programmes run by SMA. All of this, together with the charitable work of SMACF, augurs well for SMA's continued work in advocating for and supporting the medical profession.
The evening ended with a group photo, as we reaffirmed and celebrated our ethos of giving back to the medical community, through our continued efforts in Supporting Tomorrow's Doctors Today!
