SMA nominees appointed to SMC’s Complaints Panel
We are pleased to note that 15 doctors have been appointed as members of the Singapore Medical Council (SMC) Complaints Panel. Their term of appointment will be three years long, with effect from 1 July 2022 to 30 June 2025.
Self-regulation and maintaining high standards of professionalism and ethics remain the bedrock of the medical profession. We thank all nominees for offering to step forward to serve. SMA looks forward to continue contributing to a fair, open and transparent disciplinary system.
"Ask Me Anything" portal for DITs
The SMA Doctors-in-Training (DIT) Committee is introducing an "Ask Me Anything" portal where you can send in your questions and feedback, even anonymously.
We will bring up your concerns when we speak to relevant stakeholders (eg, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Health Holdings, the sponsoring institutions), and responses to commonly asked questions will be shared via various SMA outreach platforms. We look forward to your feedback as we continue to advocate and serve as the voice for doctors and patients.

MHIC launches two new initiatives
The Academy of Medicine, Singapore, Life Insurance Association, and SMA have issued a joint press release, announcing two new initiatives from the Multilateral Healthcare Insurance Committee (MHIC).
From 1 April 2022, private Integrated Shield Plan (IP) insurers have gradually rolled out Extended Panel to give policyholders certain key panel benefits even when seeing specialists from other insurers' panels, provided that the specialists observe the insurers' terms, including fees. In addition, IP insurers have generally expanded their panels beyond their committed size of at least 500 private specialists for each panel. SMA is glad that our suggestions aided in these improvements and will continue to work with the MHIC to widen access to doctors for patients.
