Topic 1: Understanding the TCM Diagnosis and Treatment Framework
Outline:

A brief explanation of the following philosophies/concepts:

  • Yin Yang & the Five Elements
    Fundamental concepts which aid in explaining visceral picture theory and syndrome differentiation.
  • Visceral Picture Theory
    Introduces certain functions of organ systems with respect to oncology.
  • Syndrome Differentiation
    Explains the framework for TCM diagnosis based on signs and symptoms.
Topic 2: How TCM Supports Conventional Medicine in Treating Cancer
Outline:
  • Common symptoms and syndromes of cancer treated by the TCM physician
  • How TCM supports conventional treatment of cancer, how syndrome differentiation is carried out and how it directs TCM treatment.
  • Types of treatment for cancer
    Includes herbs and acupuncture. Explains the choices of herbs. Debunks certain myths related to TCM.
  • Case studies

 

Guest speaker: Physician Chu I Ta

Coming from a lineage of distinguished Chinese Medical backgrounds, Physician Chu graduated from Beijing University of Chinese Medicine with a Bachelor of Chinese Medicine. Physician Chu has been actively handling patients in pain management for chronic/acute pain, cancer supportive-care treatments, gastrointestinal diseases and autoimmune diseases such as eczema and rheumatoid arthritis etc. He believes cultivating a holistic approach that encompasses both Eastern and Western practices would offer an optimal blend of medical solutions for patients. Physician Chu has also conducted numerous public and corporate healthcare talks, workshops and webinars together with Western medical and other allied health professionals with very positive responses. Physician Chu is currently taking his PhD in Clinical Integration of Eastern and Western medicine (Oncology). Outside of his clinical practice, he also serves as Secretary-General of Singapore Chinese Physicians’ Association (SCPA), Vice-Chairman of Singapore Chung Hwa Medical Institution (SCHMI), and Volunteer Physician in SCHMI (Oncology group). He is the Founder and Chief Physician in Real Health Medical (Singapore).
