Volunteering Opportunities

Singapore Medical Association and the SMA Charity Fund support volunteerism amongst our profession to make a positive difference in the lives of the less fortunate. SMA, through the SMA News has kickstarted a couple of new columns in 2012, and our new section, “From the Heart”, promotes a variety of volunteerism and humanitarian projects for our doctors to participate in. We will also provide electronic mailer on a complimentary basis for the organisation to promote volunteering opportunities amongst the medical profession.

September 2017 Project Sothea Cambodia

Project Sothea is a humanitarian aid project providing health screening, education and house-to-house patient visits in the villages of Anlong Svay and Dangkut Thnong, Battambang. It also serve the children of Peaceful Children Home, a home for orphans or children whose parents are unable to care for them.

Volunteers required: GPs and Specialists welcomed

Project Sa'Bai 



Sabai Medical will conduct annual health screenings in the rural villages and schools in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, working together with local medical students to provide consultations and medications to villagers of different age group who are in need. The team will also be providing the same to school children in 3 different schools ranging from kindergardens to teenagers.

Volunteers required: GPs and Specialists welcomed

Project Sa'Bai 



Sabai Vision will conduct annual eye screenings in the rural villages and schools in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, working together with local and foreign optometrists to provide vision assessment and glasses, as well as with local ophthalmologists to provide consultations, medications and surgeries to villagers in need.

Volunteers required: Trained opthalmologists

Numbers required: 2

Job scope: anterior and posterior segment examination with slit-lamp and fundoscope, surgical referral for cataracts and pterygiums

Filming of Kembara Kasih (Season 3)

Cameroon, Central Africa

In this season, Kembarah Kasih will be heading to both India and Cameroon and will feature mobile medical facilities that bring hope and healing to the forgotten poor with no access to healthcare. We will reveal the journey of volunteers through the eyes of our host and a local volunteer as they combine medical marvels with mobile facilities such as ships, airplanes and trains, to bring healthcare to the forgotten poor in Asia and Africa. With a heart to serve and a heart to make a difference.

The 5 day trip is an all-expenses paid trip. All food, travel and accommodation costs will be covered, including insurance coverage. The filming period will be around the month of Oct – Nov 2017.
