About the course
The purpose of this training course is to facilitate a better understanding of medico-legal issues, the roles and responsibilities of a medical expert in areas of medical negligence, SMC disciplinary hearings and Coroner's court proceedings.
Over the two days, the course will cover topics like the legal principles underpinning clinical negligence claims, the litigation process in Singapore, the law behind informed consent, the SMC disciplinary process and what makes a good medical expert report.
You will also have the chance to learn more about the skills and knowledge a doctor needs for appearing in court and disciplinary tribunals, as well as hear from our experienced expert about the problems and challenges of being a medical expert. Panel discussions will provide an opportunity to clarify various medico-legal issues directly with experienced MPS lawyers. |

Synopsis:
The doctor-patient relationship is grounded in trust, which means patients can feel free to discuss personal and sometimes sensitive details of their lives and illnesses with the doctor, confident that such information will be kept a secret. Case law abounds on the general subject of confidences as they affect media sources, revelations, or commercial transactions, as well as the physician’s specific obligation of confidentiality. This lecture will update relevant statutory and case law touching on medical confidentiality, including patient access to records and their disclosure when regulating public safety and physician misconduct.

CFPS Family Medicine Modular Course |
 |
MOH has earlier announced the establishment of a Family Physician (FP) Register. The Family Medicine Modular Course (FMMC) run by the College of Family Physicians Singapore (CFPS) for the Graduate Diploma in Family Medicine (GDFM) programme will be recognised as an accredited modular course for entry into the Register for family doctors who qualify to enter based on their years of experience.
The FMMC has been published on the CFPS website and is open to all interested doctors who are either considering entry to the FP register via this route or for purpose of CME accrediting. The FMMC would also serve as a good source for up-to-date knowledge on family medicine practice.
The new cycle of FMMC modular courses starts in August 2010. For more information, please visit the CFPS webpage below.
